Meet Format

Order of Events

Swimmers must arrive one hour before the meet starts
  • Event and lane assignments are given to swimmers at the pre-meet meeting.
    • Heat assignments are given when there is a large number of swimmers for an event (heat 1 is competition, all others are exhibition only)
    • Our team gets 3 lanes for each event (1,3,5 or 2,4,6)
    • A swimmer may be in up to 3 events in a meet
  • Swimmers do laps to warm up.
Meets can take up to three hours to complete.
Swimmers who are not competing in the current event
  • must stay out of the pool
  • must stay clear of the deck
  • must listen for the coaches to announce their event
  • may encourage and cheer for their teammates
  • may play quiet games on their towels

The order of events is as follows:
Individual Medley (25 meters each stroke)
  • 12 and under girls, then boys
  • 13 - 18 girls, then boys
Freestyle
  • 8 and under girls, then boys (25 meters)
  • 9 - 10 girls, then boys (25 meters)
  • 11 - 12 girls, then boys (50 meters)
  • 13 - 14 girls, then boys (50 meters)
  • 15 - 18 girls, then boys (50 meters)
Backstroke
  • by age and gender as in freestyle
Breaststroke
  • by age and gender as in freestyle
Butterfly
  • by age and gender as in freestyle
Relays
  • 12 & under Medley girls, then boys (4 swimmers, 25 Meters each stroke)
  • 13 & over co-ed Medley (4 swimmers, 50 Meters each stroke)
  • 8 & under co-ed Freestyle (4 swimmers, 25 Meters each)
  • 12 & under co-ed Freestyle (4 swimmers, 25 Meters each)
  • 13 & over co-ed Freestyle (4 swimmers, 50 Meters each)
